Campaigners lose nuclear dump appeal
CAMPAIGNERS fighting to stop low level nuclear waste being dumped at King’s Cliffe have lost their Court of Appeal battle.
Communities Secretary Eric Pickles granted planning permission for disposal of the waste at the landfill site operated by Augean and it started taking deliveries in December. Village resident Louise Bowen-West, of Wastewatchers, failed to block the proposals in the High Court and today her bid to persuade appeal judges to rule the High Court made the wrong decision also failed.
Her barrister Richard Drabble told the judges yesterday the planning permission was a “foot in the door” for much larger quantities of hazardous and low-level radioactive waste to be deposited in the area.
The appeal court judges upheld the previous decisions and the campaigners said they are disappointed but not ready to give up.

Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 10:06 PMI can fully understand the concerns of local residents, but the nuclear waste here will have gone through extremely stringent controls before being disposed. Safety will be of utmost important, I am sure. Unfortunately, we need to build these sites somewhere and Kings Cliffe was chosen.

Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 03:30 PMWhat is it never okay when it is in your backyard but I am sure this Louise Bowen-West wouldn't even be concerned if it was being dumped in location. Get a life people, you get more radiation going through the security at the airports or going to the dentist that you ever will with the stuff being dumped at this location.
