Yobs have terrorised and tormented a partially-deaf and sighted woman for two years, driving her to plead: "Please leave me alone."
Lizzie Anderson, 28, has suffered verbal and physical abuse walking from her home to nearby shops.

The thugs have even spun her around to try to disorientate her.

The problem is now so bad Lizzie and her father Peter have called in the police and Kettering MP Philip Hollobone for help.

Lizzie, from Kettering, has had more than 30 operations on her brain and 21 shunts to relieve fluid.

As well as her hearing and sight problems she suffers from epilepsy and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Despite her problems Miss Anderson, 28, enjoys walking to the nearby Tesco Express store in Brambleside and to a nearby pub. She refuses to use a white cane fearing she would become even more of a target.

She said: "It all started about two years ago, when people were trying to make me buy cigarettes for them and the name calling went from there.

"I've had people say 'what scary film are you from' and call me all sort of names that I can't bear to repeat."

Her father, Peter Anderson, said police visited the family on Saturday to take details after another incident on Friday.

However, Lizzie said she was determined to carry on walking to the shops and enjoying her freedom.

She said: "I'm not going to stop going out because of this.

"I suffer from night blindness, I know where I am during the day and don't want to use a white cane – if they saw it that would be like a bull seeing red.

"The people doing this are mindless. If they had children of their own or someone in their family with a disability I'm sure they would understand what they are doing to me."
Miss Anderson said on one occasion she was left disorientated by yobs who spun her around and left her walking in the wrong direction.
Later this month she is to move to Hereford to study at the Royal National College for the Blind.

Lizzie I hope they can turn this around for you, and show everyone they have some compassion by showing you the respect you deserve.

Good luck at the RNCB in Hereford.

These mindless people should be ashamed!!! One day they may have a child with a disability and I am sure they would not want to have this kind of pain inflicted on them. Lizzie keep your chin up girl! Could luck in your studies!

Presumably, from the comments Lizzie makes, these are young people behaving as yobs.
It makes one wonder what sort of parents they have, what sort of household they have grown up in, to become such horrible people.
One also has to question our so-called enlightened education system, which seems to have failed in it's duty to educate our young to be more tolerant and inclusive than some of their ill-informed and bigoted elders.
I used to think we lived in a caring and tolerant society. Sadly experience tells me otherwise.
Good luck with your studies Lizzie. I hope you find a more caring environment in Hereford than you have experienced in what used to be considered on of Kettering's more desirable areas.

How has Kettering got this bad? I hope the Police feel guilty as well because nobody ever sees them apart from pictured in the ET when a 'good' report is released! Good luck Lizzie, lets hope these yobs get what they deserve! Suppose this is another comment that will get removed for being unsuitable ;-)

Kettering is rapidly becoming a dump! These yobs and their parents really couldn't care as long as they get their numerous benefits every week. I would also question Mark's comment about our education system. Surely first and foremost it should be the parents responsibility to teach respect and tolerance. If kids start school without discipline, what hope have the teachers got.

My children were polite and disciplined when they were young, but I noticed that at school they learned lots of bad behaviour from others (a small minority), so it was hard work to keep on top of them, especially when that behaviour is regarded as 'cool', e.g. being disruptive and cheeky to teachers or violent to other pupils. When you are growing up, it becomes more important to be accepted by your peer group than your parents so it is no suprise that they might think they have to act badly to fit in to that world.
My children are still great, and seem to have learned what is acceptable behaviour and what isn't, but they are now living in a world which is increasingly hostile - I worry what will happen to them if they get picked on, and that maybe I should have made them a bit 'tougher'. The non-violent, polite society that so many of us have worked towards really seems to exist less and less. Sad.

Utterly disgusting! What are the police doing? If it were race driven there would no doubt be action, well it's the same LAW boys and girls! I am the father of a disabled lad who has chronic epilepsy and if anyone touched him like that... I would touch them. Absolute scumbags and I include ALL those who stand by and do nothing, you know who you are. It is not acceptable to pick on the vulnerable, that's what rats do.

Lizzie, there are lots of good people out there, unfortunately you have to search for them amongst the dross. I wish you the very best in your studies.

Sorry but I've just read another report, police appealing for witnesses because someone shouted some bad names but were race driven. I'll appeal for witnesses. If anyone can identify her tormentors then ring the police. Or did you all turn your backs? When Jamie Bulger was abducted and murdered, there were 38 witnesses who... did nothing at all to intervene. Well, it's your town and your problem. Do something good. Turn this scum in.

Lizzie, All I can say is good luck to you for the future, I hope your treatment etc is all posative. As for the low lifes that taunt you there is nothing more to say, only to pity them for not having more than one brain cell between themselves

Why dont the Police tell us what they do everyday? Or are they really only cardboard cut-outs in shops and for the pics in the ET? I am sure Lizzie and others reading this would love to know what they are doing to find these yobs! Another post to be reported unsuitable no doubt ;-)
