A teenager who stole cash and jewellery worth £1,300 from his grandmother has been told he may face jail.
Simon Watson, 19, of Rubens Walk, Corby, and a teenage accomplice pleaded guilty to stealing from her house while staying with her when his parents were on holiday in July this year.
He also admitted breaking into his parent's house and stealing cash, gold jewellery and aftershave.
Prosecuting at Corby Magistrates Court yesterday, Ben Samples, said Watson's parents didn't want him staying in the family house and arranged for him to stay at his grandmother's house.
He said: "The grandmother went out for a period of time. During that time she found that her safe had been damaged and smashed open.
"She went into her bedroom and found a significant amount of cash and jewellery missing from the safe."
In mitigation, Paul Seaton said Watson had given the money back to his grandmother and was very remorseful. He said the defendant had no previous convictions or problems with drugs or alcohol.
Watson acted with a 17-year-old accomplice who cannot be named for legal reasons.
He pleaded guilty to both offences and also admitted stealing a Nintendo Wii games console, as well as bank statements, accessories, games and a birth certificate from a separate house in West Glebe Road, Corby.
The youth used a false information in an attempt to pose as the owner while trading the games console, pack and games for £92 at the Gamestation store in Kettering.
Magistrate Mary Gould said the theft from the grandmother was a "breach of trust". She said: "These are serious offences. We feel, therefore, that we are looking at a custodial sentence."
Watson will be sentenced at Corby Magistrates Court on November 6.
The 17-year-old will be sentenced by Kettering Youth Court on November
7.
Both were given unconditional bail until their next appearances.
