Despite the efforts of staff and the emergency services, and after being rushed to Kettering General Hospital, the pupil was later
pronounced dead.

Academy executive principal Peter Simpson paid tribute to the girl, who has not yet been named.

He said: "She collapsed during a PE lesson and first aid was rendered as quickly as it could be. The emergency services were summoned immediately and arrived promptly but as I understand it, she died later in hospital.

"She was universally seen as a lovely girl and a very well-liked student. It's an absolutely tragic event. The school is still in a state of shock and everyone is very distressed."

Special assemblies will be held today and counselling will be offered to children.

A police spokesman said: "There will be further investigations to ascertain the cause of death but police are not treating it as suspicious."

Resident Brian Anthony, 60, of Deeble Road, said: "For this to happen to a young child is terrible for any parent. My thoughts go out to her family at this sad time."

Phil Scott, 43, of Beech Crescent, whose oldest child is 14, said: "You can't go through life worrying about your kids, but you don't expect to pack your kids off to school and never see them again."

Flowers have been left at the school. Attached to a bouquet of carnations and roses was a note which said: "RIP Joannne...You were the life and soul, always had a smile on your face."

Your comment was removed because you are speculating as to why this young girl died and who was too blame which is not acceptable until the facts are given.
Such awful sadness for the family and friends of this girl, rip little one.

Nice to see your thoughts are with someone thats the first time its been mentioned by you. Did you ever go school? Do you realize how many times this sort of thing happens? Shall we have medicals everytime we go to the park or ride a horse or go to the fair and who said it was a heart attack anyway. You have far too much to say about something you know nothing about. I came on here to show my respect to a family who have lost a daughter not to have a debate with you, your health and safety mad and that's whats making this country miserable.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to this young girls family, to lose a child at such a young age is just so tragic and unfair. I have a daughter of the same age and cannot even begin to imagine what you must be going through.
