People are getting together to improve life for families living in the north of Corby by tackling anti-social behaviour and dog fouling.
The Shire Lodge and Chestnuts Tenants' and Residents' Association has been set up following an inaugural meeting in the Ennerdale Community Centre.

Dozens of people attended the new group and secretary Sue Robertshaw, of Sycamore Close, hopes it i
s a sign of things to come.

She said: "Residents have come out with some pretty clear problems.

"Two real big bugbears are the use of motorbikes causing problems around Rockingham Triangle and also dog fouling, which is a real problem for areas of the Shire Lodge estate.

"Anti-social behaviour is quite high as well. This group can only help make north Corby a better place to live.

"At the end of the day, the people causing the problems have to realise there are other people living in the community and we all want a quiet life.

"It's good to get it off your chest and talk about these problems."

Mrs Robertshaw said the Shire Lodge and Chestnuts Tenants' and Residents' Association is the last district association to be set up in Corby and hopes it is the final piece in the jigsaw.

Resident John Maguire, of Poplar Road, said the main concerns were anti-social behaviour, dog fouling and vandalism.

The 55-year-old said: "I'd been complaining about anti-social behaviour so I thought I should join the group.

"We have had two meetings and both were well attended. The main issues were things like vandalism, anti-social behaviour and youngsters riding about on motorbikes, causing a nuisance.

"There was a need for people to come together and for the residents, the police and the various agencies to co-ordinate things.

"That's what this has helped to do by setting this group up and also giving the residents a voice."

The association will meet on the first Tuesday of every month from now until the end of the year, starting at 7.45pm, in the Ennerdale Community Centre, in Ennerdale Road.

John Jackson, of Chesnut Avenue, Corby, said: "I think the association is a good idea. Anything that can help with the motorbikes and anti-
social behaviour we get around here is great."
