A FOOTBALLER who is committed to helping the community has been presented with another trophy for his hard work helping schoolchildren enjoy the beautiful game.
Kettering Town player Brett Solkhon was presented with the inaugural Mayor of Kettering Trophy yesterday.

The midfielder was handed the award by outgoing mayor Christopher Lamb at the council's Bowling Green Road offices.

Mr Solkhon, who was part of the team's title and promotion- winning team this season, said: "I'm honoured to receive this award.

"It's important that the club works with the community and it's something the players enjoy.

"We've been out to a lot of schools in the town and hold training session, games and question-and-answer sessions with the pupils.

"It's something they really enjoy and they love having a kick around with the players as well."

Mr Solkhon explained the club also works with schools across the area to provide free tickets for youngsters at certain home games at the A-Line Arena.

He said: "It's important we can help make sure youngsters are able to enjoy games and watch the matches."

This year the club has been out to schools, including St Mary's Primary School, in Burton Latimer, and Hall Meadow, Brambleside and Ise Community College, in Kettering.

Mr Lamb said: "This is the first time we have presented the trophy and it is important we acknowledge the hard work the club is doing in the community.

"I'm delighted to present it to Brett. Hopefully the award may even go on to inspire youngsters to get into the game."

Kettering Town chairman Kevin Meikle said: "Whenever we have needed anything sorted or arranged Brett has always been there to help.

"He's gone in to school with the other players and done a great job."
