Tip-offs from the public have helped police seize thousands of pounds worth of drugs in the county.
The latest figures show an estimated £226,000 worth of drugs have been seized by Northamptonshire Police during the past 10 months as a result of residents' calls to Crimestoppers.

The independent charity received more than 250 calls during that time about drug offences, including 33 calls about the manufacture and
cultivation of drugs.

These calls from members of the public provided the police with intelligence which led to the detection of cannabis factories and three arrests in January. The offenders have been placed on police bail until March 2010.

The force's operational performance unit officer, Charlotte Green, said: "We work closely with Crimestoppers to bring to justice those involved in criminal activity. It's vital the public continues to report anyone who they think might be committing crime in their area."

One of the latest tip-offs led to the discovery of 400 cannabis plants in a three-bedroom semi-detached house in Wharfedale Road, Corby, on Sunday.

Residents in the quiet street said they had been suspicious because the property's blinds were always down, its windows were always open and no-one lived there.

A police spokesman said: "We won't tolerate drug offences and where intelligence suggests such activities are taking place we will seek to gain evidence to support criminal charges.

"By working together we can make a difference."

People who feel unable to speak directly to the police can provide information anonymously to Crimestoppers by telephoning 0800 555 111.

Crimestoppers will pass that information on to the police.

How am I shoring up Labour's failed prohibitionist policies? I'm not. We've had thirty years of trying to enforce the unenforceable and drug use is greater now than ever. Problem drug use of any kind is the realm of a Doctor, not a Lawyer. I am truly dismayed with the Conservative's abandonment of their Libertarian values. Are we going to ban horse riding next because you might fall off and hurt yourself? Just how much Nannying do politicians think we need? The only way any government is going to tackle problem drug use is to take control off the criminals and legalise them, but it would appear there no politicians brave enough to argue with The Sun.

Helping to "fight the war on drugs"?

Wow, now that's what I call flogging a dead horse. The "war on drugs" has been comprehensively won, by the drugs. Prohibition has been shown over and over and over again to be a complete waste of time.

Worse, we can't even be bothered to deal with the effects of the most dangerous drugs available to us.

Ahh yes the War in drugs.
Thats that thing where you victimise people for personal choice and ruin their lives under the guise of protecting them.
Sound like plain old prejudiced and fascism to me.

The war on drugs was won, by the people who take drugs.

Drugs are more available than ever, they are more potent and stronger too.
There is also a lot more variety!!!

So what has the "war on drugs" actually achieved.
Apart from alienating communities from law enforcement whilst making organised criminals very rich from the lucrative street prices they are charging.

Nothing.
In fact it has caused far more harm than good.
As soon as a dealer is busted, another takes his place.

Addiction is a problem for clinics and doctors, not the criminal justice system.
Why do we have police kicking in peoples doors for personal choice?
Even if that's a bad choice.

Regulation and education is the only we we can truly win and control the situation.

Its either that or we continue this "moral" crusade.
Pretending that we are winning and all the while criminals become richer and drugs become more freely available with no restrictions.

Regulate and educate, it will save people lifes.
Go after the dealers and cartels, but leave users ALONE.
They are not criminals and they NEED HELP!!!!

Better still regulate and legalize ALL drugs.
That way we can take the money out of the black market and organised crime.

Dont think it will work?
It worked in America with Alcohol and tobacco.
As the prohibition of these substances caused a huge black market to spring up and created some of the wealthiest criminals and syndicates we have ever seen.

If you BAN something when there is a market for it.
You create an unregulated black market.
Its economy 101

Ohh meant to add.

Cannabis is a plant.
You cannot Win

For every ton of cannabis you bust, another 10 tons ends up on the street.
But they would rather dumb you down with stats that make it looks like your tax money is being well spent.
Fact is 90% of all cannabis on the street is grown, HERE IN THE UK.
So how can they possibly win the war on drugs.
Its now a cottage industry and is the 2nd largest crop grown in this country.

WAKE UP!!

@TheOldGal
You mean like the Children that i can freely buy drugs from on the street corner?
Thats what YOU support, no control and organised crime.

Perhaps if people like you could muster the energy and intellect to debate rather than type pointless sentences, we wouldn't be in such a mess

But your sentence only reveals what a shallow minded prejudiced person you are.
No interest in others viewpoint , just keep hanging on to your prejudiced little views.
Fact is the Children of tomorrow are all too aware of little fascists like you.
You will be remembered as the nazi's who stood on people to promote their moral crusade.

As your crusade is not based on science and fact. Its based on opinions prejudice and hearsay.

Sorry if i used any BIG words that were too hard for you to understand.Look them up!
:)

Its time to fight back against the uk propaganda machine.
FASCISM AND OPPRESSION - KNOW THE SIGNS!

SCAPEGOATING - Blaming social problems on a cultural, racial, or behavioral group.

PREJUDICE - Convincing the public that all members of the targeted group are "bad" people.

LIES - "Facts" which cannot be verified and pseudo-scientific studies used as propaganda against the targeted group. History rewritten.

LACK OF PUBLIC DEBATE - "These people have no right to have their viewpoint aired." or maybe "Anyone who disagrees or questions us must be one of them."

DEHUMANIZATION - Characterizing all members of the target group as subhuman and typically capable of monstrous deeds and crimes.

A FACADE OF "PROTECTING THE CHILDREN" - Offering protection from those who would "corrupt, seduce, and destroy" our children.

CIVIL LIBERTIES SACRIFICED - "We must give up some of our freedom, liberty, and rights in order to combat this menace to society."

LEGALIZED DISCRIMINATION - Laws criminalize members of the targeted group who may be denied work, education, the right to own property, or may be restricted to where they go.

INFORMERS RECRUITED - Citizens urged to "turn in" their neighbors, friends, co-workers, and even family members.

SECRET POLICE - Non-uniformed police squads set up to wage war on the targeted group utilizing deception, infiltration, espionage, and entrapment.

CONFISCATION OF PROPERTY - Property and assets of members of the targeted group are seized. Property may be divided between the informer and the state.

REMOVAL FROM SOCIETY - Prisons, "hospitals," "rehabilitation camps," executions, genocide.

I`m law abiding and I love my country.
Sorry I don`t feel the need to string that out to more than one sentence......
If you`re trying to intimidate me, you`ve chosen the wrong person!

Right ZamanRatanam. I know my spelling is dreadful and I tend to just write as I would speak - and - I`m not in to great debates, but if all drugs become legal today.....
The police will still need to deal with the fallout from drug addiction - stealing, driving offences, murder etc.
The health service will be even more stretched.
There will be more people addicted, because if it`s legal, it must be OK.
Will there be adverts on the TV saying how much of a certain drug you can take and still be capable of driving?
Are you saying that none of this is going to happen.
The first time someone says "try this, it`ll be a laugh" say NO. Keep saying NO!

theoldgal,

I`m sorry ET. but I`m getting in to the swing of this now...
If all drugs become legal today, does that mean they will have to be of a certain standard, and then if they fall below that standard they won`t be legal.....and if that happens will you be able to call in Trading Standards?
Will the police be involved if that same drug (mixed with whatever) has made someone ill or killed them?

Give it your best shot ZamanRatanam.
