A hypnotist will coax terrified dental patients back into the dreaded chair at an open day designed to eliminate fears about going to the dentist.
Mawsley Dental Clinic is holding a free session tomorrow for anyone who is scared of visiting the dentist or has other fears about treatment.

There will be a hypnotherapist on hand to talk to people about how hypnosis can help patients worried about having their teeth checked.

Surgery owner Alison Simpson said she hoped the anxiety session would encourage more people to pay regular visits to the dentist.

She said: "We find that we get a lot of people coming here who are very anxious about seeing a dentist – some people don't even want to come in to the waiting room, let alone sit in a dentist chair.

"Some people might not have been to a dentist for many years or have had a bad experience in the past."

"We want to help people deal with their anxieties, whatever they may be."

At the session people will be able to go in to the surgery, meet the staff and talk to dentists about any concerns they have about check-ups or treatment.

Miss Simpson said: "The dental surgery here is very modern and has excellent facilities.

"There are so many ways now for relieving pain so that we can carry on with the treatment, and the needles used are so much smaller and thinner compared to those used in the past.

"We have a relax room for patients and a hypnotherapist who can help people before they see a dentist."

The hypnotherapy sessions will be held by Anne Widdup and can help patients who have panic attacks, a phobia of needles or other dental instruments, or other concerns associated with visiting the dentist.

Alan Kane, of Exmouth Avenue, Corby, said: "I'm a bit scared of the dentist.

"I think this is a good idea and will help people back."

The anxiety session takes place tomorrow at 6pm.
