A 12-year old who died after his bicycle was hit by a car has been described by friends and family as a 'cracking lad' who always had a smile on his face.
Tributes have been paid on a Facebook group set up after Connor Roche, of Eastfield Crescent, Finedon, was struck by a Land Rover while cycling with his friends on the A6 in Irthlingborough on Wednesday night.

He died at the scene after suffering serious head injuries.

A friend of the family who did not want to be named said: "Connor was a cracking lad. He did his parents proud.

"He was very popular and always with friends, laughing or smiling."

More than 100 people joined a Facebook group called Book of Condolence for Connor Roche just a few hours after being set up in his memory.

More than 40 messages of condolence have been posted including one from his step-sister, Donna Meikle, who wrote: "My brother was so lovely he is so truly missed already. I love you so much babe."

Suky Bassi, shop assistant at Costcutters, in Irthlingborough Road, Finedon, said: "He used to come into the store and he was just a good, polite, well-mannered lad."

Connor was a big Arsenal fan and played for local football team Volta Junior U12s team.

His team manager Robert Marshall said: "He was a cracking lad. He was very popular. One of the training staff has already asked if we can hold some sort of tournament match in his honour."

Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the collision, at around
8pm, or the cyclist or Landrover immediately before it, to contact police on 03000 111222.
