Vicious landlord Carl Beasley tried to saw his tenant's hand off in a
brutal attack over unpaid bills, a court was told.
Beasley, 42, attacked his victim so fiercely he suffered a broken
collarbone, three fractures to his arm and he took a saw to
his hand, leaving him needing an operation.

Jailing him, Judge Richard compared Beasley, of
O x fo rd Ro a d , Ro t h we l l , t o unscrupulous landlord Peter Rachman who was notorious for exploiting tenants during the 1950s and 60s.

The court heard Beasley wanted Colin Villiers out of his property in Crispin Street, Rothwell, and went round to try to scare him. He left him needing hospital treatment and said "now you have met the landlord".

Judge Bray said: "This is a very serious assault. You attacked a man in his lodgings at night, you broke his arm in three places, you attacked him by sawing at his hand with a saw.

"You were effectively his landlord. You wanted him out of the
property so you threatened him and attacked him. This was Rachmanism.

"There must be a very lengthy sentence now to deter criminal
landlords like yourself from such acts."

Northampton Crown Court heard that Mr Villiers was due to be evicted from the property on June 18 after a series of disagreements between him and the landlady over unpaid bills.

In his statement Mr Villiers said: "As I entered my bedroom I
saw Beasley rushing towards me. He said 'you are a dirty smack head'.

He started hitting me. I could feel blows all over me. He told me to get out and not to come back. He said 'now you have met the landlord.'"

Beasley had previously pleaded not guilty to the attack on June
5, last year, claiming on the night he was at his home in bed with his wife.

But yesterday he was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and sentenced to six years.

Rebecca Wade, prosecuting, said: "Mr Villiers is an honest,
genuine man. The fact that he used to be a heroin addict
doesn't mean he wasn't telling the truth."

Turning to Beasley, she said: "This is a man who has
viciously attacked someone so much so that he had to have an
operation."

Derek Johashen, defending, had suggested to the jury that
Beasley did not attack Mr Villiers, saying the victim was a
former heroin addict who probably had enemies.

I have known Carl for a number of years both as a friend and also through our association with Kettering Rugby Club.

I was the manager of the U17 Rugby Team last season and Carl was the Head Coach.

This took up much of Carl’s spare time as he ran training sessions with the players on both Tuesday’s and Thursday’s each week and these were after work from 7pm – 9pm.

When we had matches they took place on a Sunday and Carl also provided lifts to players, organised and motivated the team and provided after match support/team bonding entertainment too.

This commitment also involved Carl’s family too as his son, Laurie, was part of the U17 Team and his wife, Anicia, prepared and cooked all of the home game meals for our team and the opposition too.

I have seen that Rugby is something that has been a large part of Carl’s life as his eldest son played too and Carl also coached him all the way through the age group structure.

Carl’s commitment to the Club and Team has been a driving force to the success we have experienced and also lifted us from the knocks that we have also had to deal with. In giving up his spare time to develop and coach young lads in a sport which provides skills for later life I can whole heartedly say that they benefit enormously from this.

Yours sincerely

To must of us he is known as Bodge. He is such an inspiration to our team and through the best of times and worst of times, he's stuck with us, dragged us to our feet and dusted us off. No matter what, he is still our coach and we'll always be grateful for the time, commitment, confidence and care that he has put into each and every one of us. We'll play for you mate, a pint of Guinness is waiting in the club house with your name on it. See you soon buddy.

Mr Villers it would seem is an honest and genuine man, oh and a heronine addict too. This honest and genuine drug addict had a slightly bad memory when it came to paying any rent to his landlord, poor Mr Villers, if only he had not spent all of his honest and genuine earnings on drugs then Mr Beasley may not have had cause to get an incy bit cross with him. Apart from the ET reporter, the Judge and the Prosecution I don`t think anyone else has a bad word to say about Mr Beasley. Somehow I feel that there has been a gross injustice here.

I knew Carl and his family well and he always showed everyone around them the greatest respect and gave much support to many people around them, either through the Rugby club or as friends. I feel for Anicia and his children who will now not benefit from his support for far too long. I know though that they will recieve great support from all their friends and colleagues who care for them.
