Hundreds of pupils will be taking part in national Walk To School Week next week.
The aim of the county council scheme is to promote how walking, rather than being driven to school, makes a major contribution to cutting pollution and traffic congestion.

The theme for event is 'Be bright, be seen, no matter the weather' and aims
to recognise the importance of wearing suitable clothes for the walk to school.

And one of the schools taking part is Park Junior School in Kettering.

Cllr Bob Seery, county council cabinet member for transport and highways, said: "I very much endorse this continuation of our annual Walk To School Week with an innovative theme which I have no doubt makes an important contribution to the county council's objectives of improving road safety and reducing traffic congestion.

"This is particularly directed at reducing the amount of traffic caused by children going to school and it is an important part in our overall jigsaw for achieving that objective.

"In addition this initiative makes an important contribution to our objectives of reducing air pollution and carbon emissions and improving the health of children and their families.

"I trust that it will again be fully supported by the people of the county."

At five schools around the county, school travel plan officers will be accompanying pupils.
