A woman who is taking part in a 350-mile bike ride has been given a boost with a £1,000 donation.
Kate Macintyre is on course to raise hundreds of pounds for the charity Help for Heroes, which funds the rehabilitation of injured soldiers.

She is taking part in the Big Battlefields Bike Ride on Monday, covering Second World War battlefields in northern France.

The Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland Army Cadet Force has made Help for Heroes its charity of the year and has donated £1,000 to Miss Macintyre's fund.

It means the 37-year-old, of Centre Parade, Kettering, has now raised more than £2,200.

She said: "I'm a bit apprehensive because it's a long way and it's going to be hard work. But I'm also excited because it's a fantastic opportunity."

The cheque was handed over at the Latimer detachment of the cadet group, which meets every Thursday evening at Latimer Community Arts College.

Anyone who would like to sponsor Miss Macintyre can call 07870 168085.
