THE Bishop of Peterborough has been diagnosed with a rare type of lung cancer.
The Rt Rev Ian Cundy, who heads the Anglican churches in Northamptonshire, Rutland and Peterborough, has been diagnosed with mesothelioma.
The bishop has written to the clergy and the lay ministers of the diocese to inform them of his condition.
A spokesman for the diocese said: "The cancer has been caught at an early stage, and the oncologist is hopeful that after a course of treatment Bishop Ian will be able to resume a relatively active lifestyle and to continue to do a reasonable amount of work."
Mr Cundy said: "My wife Jo and I have been greatly encouraged by the cards and letters we have received, and especially by the knowledge that so many are praying for us."
The Suffragan Bishop of Brixworth, the Rt Revd Frank White, will assume authority
