Moth Orchid/ Phalaenopsis

This is one of the easier orchids to grow and perhaps the most rewarding, since it can flower all the year round. You can also obtain a new set of flowers from the same stem once cut back a little.

Look carefully on the flower stem and you'll see what appear to be leaf buds. Once the original flowers have faded, cut the stem back to the second or third 'bud' up from the base.

In a few weeks the uppermost 'bud' will swell and send up a new flower spike which will eventually flower.

As with all orchids, humidity is important, and during the summer the plant will benefit from a light misting spray with tepid rain water. Rest the plant's container on a saucer of moist gravel as this will help create a moist micro-climate.
