Iron age beads, a Roman brooch and historic coins were among the items people took along to an archaeology finds surgery.

The event held at Stanwick Lakes on Saturday attracted a range of people from avid metal detectorists to people who had stumbled across things in their back gardens.

It lasted an hour longer than scheduled as Northamptonshire finds liaison officer Julie Cassidy was inundated with queues of people armed with boxes and bags containing finds.

Education co-ordinator for the Rose of the Shires project based at Stanwick Lakes, Liz Williams said: “This is the second time this event has been held at Stanwick Lakes and it was really successful.

“Lots of people came along with fantastic finds and we’re very grateful to Julie Cassidy for coming to see us.”

The finds were identified and recorded. In some cases they were taken away so further investigations could be carried out on them. Stanwick Lakes hopes to host more surgeries in May and October.
