Teenagers embrace urban art
Youngsters Lottie Foster, aged twelve, and Louie Wood, aged eleven, pictured with Play Ranger Chloe Markevics during the Play Rangers graffiti art fun day at Peace Park in Thrapston.
TEENAGERS came up with creative designs in a graffiti club aiming to use the techniques in artwork instead of on the streets.
The young people aged 13 and above took part in a session on Wednesday in Thrapston’s Peace Memorial Park.
It was one of a range of activities funded by the Lottery as part of the Play Ranger Scheme in East Northamptonshire.
Senior play ranger Linda Savage, from Community Cultural Partnerships which run the sessions on behalf of the district council, said: “They have a free choice to do what designs they want and normally go for their names and the girls usually choose flowers and hearts.
“We are there to help with ideas and they usually produce bright and colourful designs.”
The youngsters were able keep their graffiti boards following their artistic efforts.
She added: “The activities come out of talking to them and asking what they want to be doing.”
Other activities will include sports and DJ sessions. They are free to attend and booking is not required. For details call 01933 350324.
