A daughter inspired by her mother’s battle against cancer for the third time has pledged to take part in a string of fundraising events including three marathons and a skydive.

Shionadnah Newby, 25, of Almond Road, Kettering, will be taking on the Rome Marathon, the Barcelona Marathon and the Paris Marathon in aid of two cancer charities – CLL Support and Cancer Research.

Miss Newby, who works as a customer co-ordinator at Corby crisps manufacturer Tayto Group, is also organising a fundraising ball and a fete to encourage people of all ages to run a mile in support of the causes.

Her mother Sheila, 45, is currently battling against chronic lymphatic leukaemia, having already beaten spinal cancer and endometrial cancer.

Miss Newby said: “I enjoy running anyway. A marathon was my first thought about doing something to raise money for charity and it stemmed from there. I wanted to push myself to raise as much money as possible.

“My mum always said my positive attitude helped her to beat the disease and now I want to show my love and support again.”

Her first challenge will be on March 18 when she will begin at the Italian city, followed by the challenge in the Catalan capital a week later. She will be cheered on by her mother and sister in Paris on April 15.

The family support also extends to the skydive with her brother Alexander being among the team of 25 leaping from 15,000ft in Nottingham – something Miss Newby admits she feels nervous about.

She added: “The team at Tayto has been magnificent and I just hope the community and readers will unite behind me and help to raise as much as we possibly can.”

Miss Newby’s mother Sheila appealed for companies to sponsor the events. She said: “I think what she’s doing is just phenomenal.

“I think a lot more money needs to go into research as a lot of people have cancer. What she’s doing will hopefully help a lot of people. I am just very, very proud of her.”
