Slimmers give iPad to school
Masque Theatre Slimming World donate iPad 2 to Wren Spinney Special School L-R Dawn Waller, Isabel Wallis, Joseph Beal and Emily Ireson-Vaughan
Slimmers have donated a tablet computer to a special school to help its pupils to communicate and to learn.
Members of a Slimming World group which meets at the Masque Theatre at Latimer Arts College in Barton Seagrave have donated an iPad to Wren Spinney Community Special School in Kettering.
Dawn Waller, who runs the slimming group, said: “Wren Spinney is the chosen charity of my Slimming World groups and thanks to the generosity of all my members we managed to raise enough money to buy the iPad in just a matter of weeks.”
Dawn, who runs groups on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, asked members to support the school in Westover Road after one of her members, Emily Ireson-Vaughan, who is a teacher at the school, explained how iPads could support pupils with their communication needs and also enhance learning in the curriculum.
She said that the iPads cost a fraction of the price of some high-tech communication aids and had ‘apps’ available specifically designed for people with communication difficulties.
