The aspiring Alan Sugars of Corby have been showing off their entrepreneurial skills as part of a national scheme.

Students taking part in the Young Enterprise programme have visited RS Components in the town to promote and sell their products.

RS is providing business mentors for all of the teams, who must come up with a product, then make, promote and sell it. They also sell shares and pay tax to make the experience as real as possible.

There are four teams taking part – two from Corby Business Academy and one from Brooke Weston Academy and The Kingswood School.

Josh Loy, 16, is operations director of Simply Sorted, from Brooke Weston.

He said: “We are selling a one-stop kit with all that you need to do exams, and a guide with hints and tips.

“It has gone down really well because there are a lot of people here with sons and daughters doing exams over the next couple of months.”

Alice Hill, 17, is finance director of eMBRACE, from Corby Business Academy.

They have created a range of gifts including coloured acrylic photo frames and certificate holders.

She said: “We are all involved in everything and it is great for teamwork.”

The Kinsgwood School team sold Valentine’s Day roses and the second CBA team sold baking products including tea towels and recipe cards.

Phil Harris-Bridge, RS head of customer service for Europe, said: “The opportunity to be mentors is a tremendous one for our people to share their expertise in how to set up and run a successful business.”
