All sorts of things change from season to season in fashion whether its colours, prints or in this case, length.

For a while now, the maxi dress and skirt has dominated the High Street, and while it is still really popular this year, another length has come in to challenge it for its style crown, the midi.

Midi is the term for a hemline that is mid-calf length for a look that is ultra-feminine and very easy to wear.

The midi trend was in fashion back in the days when it was all about the elegance of innocent sex appeal but they are back in the shops and will continue to hold their own in the style stakes into autumn too, so it’s worth investing in.

Most designers included the mid-calf length skirt in their SS11 catwalk collections, including Miu Miu, Marc Jacobs, Chloe and Fendi and to copy that look on the High Street, you should look out for panelled, sheer and floaty fabric skirts and dresses to really hit the mark.

Look effortlessly chic by pairing a midi skirt with a tailored blouse and a thick belt or go girly in a patterned midi dress.

But whatever way you wear your midi, team it with a pair of heels to keep the look authentic.

However, don’t wear shoes that are too strappy or chunky as they could make your calves look bigger than they are as there isn’t much gap between the end of the skirt and your ankles and so the last thing you want to do is block them off. Elongating is the key, particularly if you are short.
