The county’s air ambulance service will open its first charity shop in north Northamptonshire in Wellingborough tomorrow.

The Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) is opening a shop selling furniture in the former Disabled 2 Able store in Market Street, Wellingborough.

The funds raised at the shop will help to support the lifesaving service, which receives no funding from the Government or the lottery.

Shop manager Caroline Poynter said people in Wellingborough had been very supportive since the plan to open the store was announced in December and had donated an array of good quality items to be sold there.

She said: “It is an open plan shop but we will have separate themed areas for the living room and bedroom and each ‘room’ will be dressed.

“We have plenty of smaller items and bric-a-brac for sale too, as well as electrical goods.

“We have some amazing three piece suites in at the moment and in the next few weeks will also have some pianos and even a pool table in stock too.

“We have been overwhelmed with the quality of donations and also the people of Wellingborough who have helped us so far.

“We started work here in December and I’m confident we will be ready for our big opening day.”

Emma Vithlani, the WNAA’s director of retail and trading, said the Wellingborough store was expected to be a hit with shoppers.

She said: “We have huge support for our charity shops in general. Sales-wise our Daventry store in Northamptonshire consistently beats all our others across Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire and I am sure this new venture into furniture will prove as popular at the opposite end of the county.”

Shoppers who come along to the grand opening at 10.30am will also get to see a fly past from the WNAA helicopter, providing it is not called away to deal with an emergency.
