A father has vowed to raise money for the charity which supported him after his baby son’s death.

Matthew Liverton, 40, of Maple Road, Rushden, will run the London Marathon on April 22 in aid of the The Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths.

He wants to repay the charity for the support his family received following the sudden death of his son 13 years ago.

The father-of-three hopes to raise more than the £1,500 target he’s set himself.

The fundraising will begin in earnest at a charity night he’s hosting at 7.30pm on Saturday, January 28, at Rushden and Higham Rugby Club.

There will be a buffet and a disco at the event, and signed celebrity and sports memorabilia, including a signed Chelsea shirt and items signed by Kylie Minogue and Cher Lloyd, will be up for grabs in an auction.

Mr Liverton, who works as a manager for the Burton Latimer-based company Norbert Dentressangle, said: “There’s no bigger challenge than the marathon. I have played a lot of sports, but I have not done much running in the past.

“My son Jack died 13 years ago, which is why the charity is important to me. The charity was brilliant to us at the time and I always vowed that I would repay them in some shape.”

His wife Sarah, who is currently pregnant, said: “I think he’s an exceptionally brave person to do this, especially as he’s not done much running before.

“I am very proud of him and we’re really looking forward to the charity night.

“I’d also like to thank Lip Smackers Catering and Mini Me Roadshow for doing the buffet and disco.”

Tickets for next Saturday’s charity night are available by calling 01933 313189 or emailing livvys02@talktalk.net.
