A long-established baker’s shop has closed after more than 30 years in a town.

But customers of Woodings in Rushden High Street will still be able to buy the company’s popular bread as its bakery business is staying open, despite the closure of it’s shop front.

Woodings produce will now be sold at Mrs B’s shop, which is also in Rushden High Street.

A former Woodings staff member who lost their job as a result of the front shop’s closure has also been taken on by Mrs B’s. Mrs B’s owner Elaine Buckby said: “The bakery business is still open at the back of the Woodings shop.

“We are selling some of the produce because they wanted somewhere for their established customers to be able to buy their bread from.

“I think they are still taking other orders too.

“Customers are pleased that they can still get the Woodings bread from somewhere and we are getting quite a lot of regular orders.

“I think it’s quite a traditional bread and there’s a big customer base for it.

“It has brought some different people into our shop and we had good feedback from the customers.”

Adrian House, chairman of the Rushden Chamber of Trade, said: “It is a long established High Street shop gone – the supermarkets are taking the bread sales.

“I am pleased that the business is still going to operate, but I am sad that another business has gone from the northern end of the High Street.

“It just highlights the reason why we should regenerate the northern end of the High Street.”
