Members of an over-50s group in Wellingborough proved they were still nifty when they took part in a Nordic Walking sample session at the Redwell Leisure Centre.

The Nifty 50+ group was given a demonstration on the sport by Northamptonshire Sport instructors Lizzi England and Sarah McVeigh.

Group members were put through their paces by the instructors and shown how to do Nordic Walking, which uses poles in order to use upper body muscles as well as those in your legs while walking.

Members of the Nifty 50+ group take part in a number of sporting activities, including tennis, bowls, badminton and Zumba classes. They also have tea and coffee after taking part in activities.

Northamptonshire Sport offers beginners courses in Nordic Walking, as well as free taster sessions and one-to-one classes.

The organisation also runs Nordic Walking groups.

For details about taking part contact Northamptonshire Sport on 01604 366976. For details about Nifty 50+ activities call Redwell Leisure Centre on 01933 402045.
