Host of events to celebrate conker weekend
Explore Northamptonshire, a division of Northamptonshire Enterprise Limited, are geared up to continue the county's long tradition of all things conkers with a Horse Chestnut-filled weekend, whatever the weather.
This weekend the leafy green village of Ashton in Northamptonshire will play host to the 43rd World Conker Championships, seeing the village and surrounding area come alive with stalls, entertainment and competitions for all the family.
The Conker Championships will take place Sunday the 12th of October on the green at Ashton from 10.30am until 3pm. For further details, including ticket prices and event information, please visit their website here.
The Championships were conceived when a small group of regulars at the local pub were thwarted by bad weather in their attempt to organise a fishing expedition. Explore Northamptonshire not wanting to be similarly thwarted by this year's lack of sunshine have come up with a novel idea to ensure your conkering fun continues long after the championships are over and the Conker King crowned.
Today we launch Conkerquest, the new online game to get everyone conkering, no matter the weather.
