Kettering Rugby Club lost £15,000 of equipment when arsonists struck at the club in Waverley Road in March.

Now players from the under-11s and under-14s teams are preparing for a giant car boot sale to help pay for some specialist training equipment.

More than 200 pitches will be available for the sale on August 9. It will take place from 11am to 4pm and there will be a burger stall and a licensed bar on site.

Parent Paul Langley, whose son plays for the junior section, is helping to organise the event. He said: "We want to help the club out and buy some specific training kit, including some lightweight, waterproof training tops so they can train even when it's raining.

"The club suffered a major arson attack earlier this year and a lot of kit was destroyed. The junior section wanted to help the club and raise funds for its own training kit."

The boys will be parking attendants on the day, collecting money from stallholders and serving refreshments.

The arson attack destroyed two storage units along with training kit and marquees used in summer events and tournaments. The club also lost two scrum machines, one of which was worth £5,000.

Kettering Rugby Club is home to a range of teams, from under-sixes up to the four senior teams, as well as teams for girls and women.

Pitch fees for the car boot sale in August are £5 for cars and £8 for vans, people carriers and trailers.

There will be lots of parking on site so that visitors do not cause congestion in nearby streets.
