A carnival procession featuring vintage vehicles will take to the streets of Kettering next weekend.
The annual parade will take place on Saturday, August 16.

Richard Garry from the carnival committee said: "We are just trying to tie up all of the loose ends. Everything is going according to plan at the moment, we just want people to turn out ont
o the streets.

"We have got about 16 or 20 vintage cars coming in as part of the parade and we have got 10 or 12 floats on lorries going around."

Floats will include the carnival court and Leapfrog Day Nursery, The Harlequin pub and the local childminders' association will also have floats in the parade.

The vintage car rally is new to the carnival this year and is aimed at increasing public interest in the event. There is also still the chance to sign up for a float.

The carnival celebrations will kick off with a children's fancy dress disco on Sunday from 3pm to 5pm at the Athletic Club, Rockingham Road, Kettering. Entry is £1 on the door.

Next week, the carnival court will be crowned at a special evening at the Athletic Club on Thursday, from 8pm to 11.30pm.

The parade on the Saturday will depart from the Grange estate, near The Harlequin pub on Stamford Road at 1pm.

The route will take it down Stamford Road and up Montagu Street, left into Silver Street and Dalkeith Place and then onto London Road.

The parade will then turn onto Bowling Green Road and Sheep Street, before heading into High Street and through the town via Lower Street.

The route will then head up to Rockingham Road via Northall Street and will finish up at the pleasure park, via Wood Street and Wilson Terrace.

Proceeds from the big day will be given to local blind people.

Anyone who is interested in signing up for a float can call Alan Cockshoot on 01536 502222.
