Lee Fowler is ready for a key role in Kettering Town's push for the promotion play-offs next season.
The former Welsh under-21 international midfielder – who celebrates his 26th birthday next week -– signed a two-year contract at the A-Line Arena yesterday, joining from Blue Square Premier rivals Forest Green Rovers.

He said: "Although we had good cup runs last season and started to pick up towards the end, as a team it was disappointing.

"Forest Green also played good football. But I want to be involved at the other end of the table and fighting for a Football League place.

"Kettering already have a good squad and hopefully I can come in to help.

"I like getting on the ball and setting things up by making tackles and playing from deep. Then I can join in further forward.

"I've had a couple of conversations with Mark Cooper and I can see his
man-management skills straightaway. He's got a good future in the game and a great reputation so far.

"Everyone here has to look to improve themselves. After finishing eighth, we should be going for the play-offs."

Fowler began his career at Coventry City before spells with Huddersfield Town, Scarborough, Burton Albion and Newport County.

His league debut for Forest Green came in the 1-1 draw at Kettering and he also featured in the Poppies' 2-0 win at the New Lawn just before Christmas.

Now chairman Imraan Ladak expects Fowler to become a valuable addition to the squad.

He added: "Mark gave me a list of players he wants and Lee was right up there with another midfielder who we are looking to sign as well.

"The plan is to have a slightly more attractive style of play and Lee fits in with that because Forest Green and Burton are good footballing sides.

"That should allow Andre Boucaud to play further up the pitch where he can hurt other teams instead of doing all the dirty work. We want to give him more freedom. Mark was really impressed with Lee who was a 'must-have' player so we're pleased he is here."
