FLASHBACKS OF A FOOL (15)

At Vue Northampton
Daniel Craig leaves Bond behind in this meandering nostalgia piece about a washed-up Hollywood actor, Joe Scot, coming to terms with an inglorious childhood tinged with tragedy. Harry Eden shines as the young Joe, but the film tends to drag a little.

STREET KINGS (15)

At Odeon Kettering, Cineworld Northampton, Vue Northampton
Writer-director David Ayer has certainly found his groove – gritty crime thrillers about morally tainted cops who bend the law to compensate for an imperfect legal system – but he's in danger of getting stuck in it. The set-up and its bloody pay-off are all familiar, even down to the fractious relationship between Forest Whitaker's corrupt mentor and Keanu Reeves' sharp-shooting protege.

FOOL'S GOLD (12A)

At Odeon Kettering, Cineworld Northampton, Vue Northampton
This misguided romantic comedy, which sends its cardboard characters on a protracted treasure hunt in the clear blue waters of the Caribbean, is as worthless as the title suggests. Leading man Matthew McConaughey wastes no time in losing his shirt, but there's zero screen chemistry with Kate Hudson.

IN BRUGES (18)

At Odeon Kettering, Cineworld Northampton, Vue Northampton
Olivier Award-winning Martin McDonagh's feature film directorial debut is a gloriously offbeat jaunt in the company of two hopelessly mismatched hit men – Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell. The majestic belfry towers and rosary stalls of Bruges provide the unlikely backdrop for a blackly humorous tale of betrayal and redemption.

PATHOLOGY (18)

At Vue Northampton
A brilliant medical student (Milo Ventimiglia) becomes embroiled in a deadly game of bluff with his fellow interns in this thriller-by-numbers, that suggests in America would-be surgeons have far too much time on their hands. Director Marc Schoelermann clutters his hospital wards with lifeless performances and lame twists but the young cast look dashing in pristine designer scrubs.

21 (12A)

At Odeon Kettering, Cineworld Northampton, Vue Northampton
Robert Luketic's new film is a high stakes drama about a group of academically gifted youngsters who risk everything in the gambling capital of the world.
Unlike its risk-taking protagonists, 21 plays safe at every turn, eventually going bust with an obvious double-bluff that we can see coming well before the hapless fall guy.

SON OF RAMBOW (12A)

At Odeon Kettering, Cineworld Northampton
A delightful coming of age comedy/drama harking back to the days when leg warmers, the Rubik's Cube and Bucks Fizz were the coolest things out. Bill Milner and Will Poulter shine as two schoolboy loners - one a vulnerable outsider, the other cheeky troublemaker - are inspired to join forces after watching Sylvester Stallone in Rambo: First Blood. Irresistibly charming.

AWAKE (15)

At Vue Northampton
Hayden Christensen turns in a comatose performance in this hokey medical thriller which sees him play a rich kid who can feel every slice of the scalpel during open-heart surgery.

27 DRESSES (12A)

At Vue Northampton
Katherine Heigl stars in this frothy romantic comedy penned by Aline Brosh McKenna, screenwriter of The Devil Wears Prada. Heigl compels us to fall in love with her heartbroken singleton.

DR SEUSS' HORTON HEARS A WHO! (U)

At Odeon Kettering, Cineworld Northampton, Vue Northampton
The colourful characters and gentle wit of Dr Seuss provide the creative spark for this animated comedy, which promotes the message of equality for all creatures. With lead voices provided by Jim Carrey and Steve Carell .

THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES (PG)

At Odeon Kettering, Cineworld Northampton, Vue Northampton
The Spiderwick Chronicles is a rollicking fairytale full of magic and mystery, based on the books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, which reveal an alternative reality full of goblins and ogres. Freddie Highmore shines in dual roles in this fast-paced family movie.
Rating ****

STEP UP 2 THE STREETS (PG)

At Odeon Kettering, Cineworld Northampton, Vue Northampton
With high-energy dance sequences, contrived romance and a beautiful cast of lithe young things with flat stomachs and even flatter dialogue, this works up just enough sweat to appeal to an undemanding teen audience.
Rating ***

THE GAME PLAN (U)

At Odeon Kettering
The Game Plan is an old-fashioned Disney yarn extolling the virtues of the family unit. Humour is gentle and inoffensive. Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson demonstrates a flair for comedy and there's a nice rapport with his diminutive co-star, Madison Pettis.
