Gates are open to top gardens
COTON Manor Gardens are now open for the summer, with 10 acres of land and a cafe for visitors.
Originally laid out in 1925 by the grandparents of the present owner, the site encompasses a series of smaller gardens and a bluebell wood.
The garden slopes down from the 17th century manor house and is landscaped on different levels.
The house, which is not open to the public, provides a central focus, with the walls supporting climbing roses, clematis and shrubs, while the Yorkshire stone terraces display numerous pots overflowing with pelargoniums, verbenas, heliotropes, salvias and agapanthus.
Over a thousand varieties of plants are in the garden, which was ranked third in a Daily Telegraph poll of readers' favourite gardens.
The cafe serves lunches between midday and 2.30pm and teas all
afternoon.
The garden school established in 1994 provides a range of horticultural courses and details are available online.
The gardens are open Tuesdays to Saturdays from midday to 5.30pm and on Sun
