NEW S&L manager Steve Noble says his decision to join the Corby side was a "no brainer".
And it was the fact that former Corby Town director Mark Pengelly has also become involved at Occupation Road that was the clincher in Noble's mind.

"When I saw the drive and enthusiasm Mark had and he told me about his plans for the development of the club and the ground site, it was an obvious decision," he said.

Noble's decision to leave Desborough Town after enjoying a successful season with them last year has come as a surprise to many.
But he feels his longer-term ambitions are better served with S&L.

"I knew I wanted a new challenge but I have to admit I wasn't sure what I was going to do when I left Desborough," he said.

"It was something of a bolt from the blue when S&L got in touch but I quickly knew that they were the right choice and it comes down to the scope for development within Corby football.

"Corby frequently has the best youth teams in the area all the way up to the age of 16 but then there's nothing else and those players seem to drift away.

"There's a void between the end of youth football and the level that Corby Town are at and I want S&L to be the ones fill that void.

"To do that, we need to have the right coaching and facilities to attract and keep these players in the town. Mark Pengelly's drive and ambition on that front convinced me that this was the right move to make."

Noble's assistant Graham Leech and backroom staff including Dave Trimble, Glyn Davis and Lee Duffy have also made the move to Occupation Road.

And Noble believes they can make the difference.

"S&L have basically been going nowhere over the last few years," he said.

"The challenge now is to change all that and with the people we now have involved here, I think we can do it."

Noble's first job is to strengthen and improve a team that finished halfway in the UCL Premier Division last year and he confirmed he was looking to bring several new players in.
