Garry Hill will check out at least two trialists in Rushden & Diamonds' first pre-season friendly tonight.
Former Peterborough United defenders Sagi Burton and Gareth Jelleyman have been named as part of the squad for the trip to Essex club Halstead Town.

Centre-half Burton, 30, spent last season at Coca-Cola League Two side Barnet while 28-year-old left-back Jelleyman was relegated with
Mansfield Town.

Diamonds boss Hill revealed: "They have been training with us at
Kimbolton and we'll see where we go next week.

"Burton is very experienced with more than 300 games. We both know where we stand and I'd like to have a closer look at him.

"Jelleyman also joined us this week and there could be one or two other trialists involved tonight as well. We will be taking 18 players in a strong squad.

"When the boys have been training for a couple of weeks I'm sure they are all looking forward to getting a game now.

"I think it's a case of giving a run-out to some of them and getting used to each other so we are ready for the start of the season."

Summer signings Alan Marriott, Curtis Osano, Scott Mitchell, Daryl Clare, Lee Phillips and Dean McDonald will make their debuts for Diamonds.

But former Cambridge United midfielder Rob Wolleaston is left out along with the likes of Jon Challinor, Tom Shaw and Michael Corcoran because Hill doesn't want to take a full squad on the two-hour trip.

The game was brought forward and re-arranged after initially being called off from tomorrow due to concerns over the pitch at Rosemary Lane.

Halstead finished sixth last season in the Ridgeons Eastern Counties League Division One – the same level as UCL sides such as Whitworths, Thrapston Town and Burton Park Wanderers.

Admission prices for tonight's match are £4 adults, £2 concessions/ OAPs and £1 under-16s.

Diamonds head to Portugal next week before returning for home games against Peterborough United, Derby County, an Arsenal XI and
Tottenham Hotspur XI.
