Chris Hope has joined Corby Town after rejecting a pay cut at Rushden & Diamonds.
The 36-year-old central defender – who also had a coaching role at Nene Park – was ever-present in the Blue Square Premier last season with a collection of player-of-the-year awards.

But he turned down the offer of a new contract and will now boost the Steelmen's part-time squad ahead of their Conference North campaign.

Hope said: "I have to say a big thank you to everyone at Diamonds.

"I've enjoyed the last three years – even though there were ups and downs. It's a fabulous club and I have nothing but fond memories.

"It was touching at the end of last season when people knew I was out of contract but they wanted me to stay. I appreciate every comment.

"So it's a shame to leave. But the club's financial restraints meant the contract being offered was a lot less money.

"I had a couple of offers from other Conference clubs.

"I'm good mates with Phil Gulliver and I've watched Corby a few times. They play good football and I'm looking forward to the challenge.

"I also wish Justin Edinburgh, Michael Stone, Keith Cousins and everyone at Diamonds all the best.

"I hope they get promotion. But there will be no favours from me in the pre-season friendly at Rockingham Triangle on July 28, that's for sure!"

Corby boss Graham Drury described Hope's arrival as "fantastic".

He added: "You know what you are getting from Chris every game, as he proved with last season's performances on a consistent basis.

"His experience will be invaluable to us together with the likes of Brett Solkhon, Jason Lee and Lawrie Dudfield.

"Phil and Tommy Jaszczun also have Conference Premier experience which will help as we are going into a tough league.

"With people like Chris coming in, we've got an opportunity to put a
challenge in.
"He wants to concentrate on playing rather than coaching for now and everything has fallen into place for us."
