TEENAGE midfielder Jake Beecroft today signed a
new three-year contract at Rushden & Diamonds.
The former youth-team captain has made five senior appearances as a substitute towards the end of the last two seasons.
Now he is looking to reward manager Garry Hill's faith by pushing for a regular role – despite competition from Curtis Woodhouse, Jon Challinor, Andy Burgess and Rob Wolleaston.
Beecroft said: "I'm happy to be here at a club which has got ambition. I'm looking forward to the new season.
"I'd like to be part of what we are aiming for. I respect the offer and, hopefully, I can push forward by working hard.
"I'm pleased to be part of the first-team squad and I've enjoyed coming off the bench to get a run-out. As a young lad that was a nice honour.
"There have been quite a lot of players signing this summer and the manager has brought in some quality.
"Team morale and spirit is very good at the moment. Hopefully we will be pushing for promotion.
"I'm still learning every day and I'll see what comes next because it should make me a better player by training with this squad.
"The other lads have played at such a high standard so I really respect them on and off the pitch."
Beecroft, who celebrates his 19th birthday in September, arrived at Nene Park at the end of his under-16 season after four years with
Fulham followed by a spell at Gillingham in his home county of Kent.
Last season Beecroft helped Diamonds under-18s win the NFA Cup as well as making a run in the FA Youth Cup.
