Walk distance: 4 miles
How to get there: Harrington is seven miles west of Kettering, signposted from Junction 3 of the A14 (the Desborough bypass). The pub is opposite the road to Rothwell.
THIS week's walk starts in the quiet and unspoiled village of Harrington outside the 16th century pub The Tollemache Arms and takes in the nearby village of Arthingworth.
Harrington is perched on a hill above the Ise Valley with wonderful views of the open countryside. Old stone houses and restored cottages form one main high street, bounded by old stone walls.
Turn right out of the pub and walk along the street past a row of cottages, next to a stone wall. At the end of the wall follow the bridleway on the right through a gate and sheep pen.
Walk downhill through Falls Field with the hedge on your left. This was once the site of a monastic manor owned by the Knights Hospitallers of St John of Jerusalem and later laid out as an ornamental garden.
Past the field the track continues between two hedgerows. Go through the gate into another field where the track climbs upwards. At the top you will see views of Arthingworth ahead of you and Warren Hill Farm on your left. Continue, now with the hedge on your right, all the way to Arthingworth.
The path drops down towards the River Ise where you will find a narrow, brick-built bridge beside an old ford.
The track ends at the gate in the top corner of the field. Join the road and go left in to Arthingworth village, whose oldest building is the 12th century St Andrew's Church.
You may wish to take time out to look around this pretty village, which has three attractive farm buildings, a manor house and some elegant lodge houses, then retrace your steps to the gate.
Follow the bridleway diagonally across the field to the double farm gates on the far side. Go through these and walk up the field on the other side.
The track becomes more clear and it goes under a line of pylons then through another double gate on to the road.
Turn right down the road to Newbottle Bridge, where four country lanes meet.
Walk along the road back to Harrington.
