Corby's day care hospice raised £3,000 at its annual summer fete.
Nearly 1,000 people streamed in and out of the Lakelands Hospice on Sunday afternoon to enjoy fun activities in baking sunshine.

A bouncy castle, beat the goalie competition and a merry go round entertained children, while adults discovered bargains on plant stalls and tried their luck on a tombola.

Fundraising manager for the Lakelands Jodie Jelley said: "It went really well. The weather was boiling.

"When we came in to set up at 7.30am it was raining, drizzly and misty but the weather got gradually better and from midday, glorious sunshine came out.

"We had 500 adults who paid to get in and I don't know how many kids came in. I would say numbers were close to a thousand. They were able to enjoy the hospice's beautiful grounds.

"This is our main fundraiser of the year. The total is fantastic. A big thank you to everyone who came and to all the volunteers."

Local radio presenter Richard Oliff, a big supporter of the hospice, opened the event.

Tickets were also sold for the car raffle draw due to take place on December 23. Organisers are hoping to raise £20,000 in total and already have more than £3,000 in the bag.

The annual fete is an important event as the hospice, in Butland Road, doesn't receive Government funding and relies on the fundraising efforts of volunteers, staff and the community. The facility provides care for people with life limiting illnesses like cancer.

The next major fundraiser is the Late Night Legs and Little Legs walk on July 31.

A five-mile loop stroll starts at 8.30pm for adults with a children's walk earlier in the evening.
