The under-17s team is the town's first open team for young people, and is aimed at helping youngsters spend their time positively while keeping fit.
Organised by crime reduction charity Nacro, the team will train and play games at Lodge Park Sport
s Centre, although under-17s from across the town are welcome to join.
Manager Jon Stonebridge has experience playing for Leicester Warriors basketball club.
He said: "I have organised outreach basketball programmes in Corby before, but this is the first time we've managed to secure funding to set up a team.
"We'll be playing in the Northampton Under-17s league.
"We lost our first game 42 to 106 but that wasn't too bad a score for our first attempt."
The team will train every Thursday and Friday between 5pm and 6pm and games take place on Sunday afternoons.
Jon, who is based at the Connaughty Centre in Cottingham Road, said: "The sport is growing in the town.
"There is a very good team at Corby Community College.
"We have already got quite a few players already coming along to training but we'd always encourage more youngsters to come along, even if it's just to improve their fitness and keep them off the streets."
National charity Nacro has been running since 1996, and its aim is to make society safer by finding practical solutions to reducing crime. The charity works to give ex-offenders, disadvantaged people and deprived communities the help they need to build a better future.
