Hundreds of students have been handed free bus passes to get to the new Corby Business Academy when term starts next month.

Corby Community College in Oakley Road closed in July to make way for the newly-built academy at Priors Hall.

Many pupils faced having to travel further every day to get to school but now Northamptonshire County Council has announced it will be
providing free transport from Corby and surrounding villages because of its out-of-town location.

School principal Dr Andrew Campbell said: "The transport plan for the school has been established after carefully examining how best to get the students on site.

"I am delighted our students will benefit from the support of police community support officers and Northamptonshire County Council's transport inspectors who will be working closely with the academy and the local community.

"It is also excellent that the county council has welcomed my proposal for academy staff to act as chaperones on some of the bus routes."

Bus passes have been issued to students along with details of the route they will travel to the school and which bus stop they should use to catch the bus from.

Former Corby Community College student Kirsty O'Neil will be starting at the academy in Year 11 in September.

She said: "We were expecting to get a bus pass because it's out of the way and we could walk to the old school.

"We got it about two or three weeks ago and everyone has them, and so with the bus the journey to school should be alright."

Cllr Bob Seery, council member for transport and highways, said: "With about 1,000 students due to attend the academy it was essential that we co-ordinated a plan to address the logistical issues of transporting large numbers of students to the site."

Police community support officers and the council's transport inspectors will be on hand for the first few weeks after the school's opening to help students find the correct bus stop and ease any concerns with the new arrangements.

Can I predict chaos? The Weldon Rd is busy from 07.30 onwards, add another 1,000 children going to school for an 8.30 start...

Funny how the money is now available to bus children to Weldon yet not so long ago there was no money available to bus children to schools in Corby. The closing of Pope John School was the catalyst for the building of this Academy, shame on you Northamptonshire County Council.

Seems that the academy will join CTC on the top tier of education in Corby.

Shame that all of the other schools are not as well funded.

It seems a shame that the whole idea of a 'Partnership' between CBA and Brooke Weston has not been established. Pupils (and indeed their parents) at Brooke Weston do not have the luxury of a free bus pass, especially considering the price increase recently introduced by Rodger's Buses to cater for the rise in diesel costs. The argument that CBA is 'out of town' is unfeasible as in the future, it too will be surrounded by housing at Priors Hall, similar to Brooke Weston which is now in the middle of Oakley Vale. One cost for all schools please, or no costs at all. No school deserves more benefits than any other.

Ok i have read your comments and i would like to respond so..

1. More traffic on the road
I think that should not be the case as children will catch a bus and not be driven by there mother in the car.
2. Money for education
I think that if the other schools in the town picked up there standards then the county/goverment would give them more funds ..I dont see it as a case of them and us. As far as i am aware the CTC has private backing aswell which gives them a better resource pool in which to develope the school. Maybe all schools should look at getting funds from the private sector.
