Searches for the body of Corby man Danny Hathaway, who disappeared from his home in Corby and was murdered in February 2007, have failed to find his body or any trace of him.
Police divers searched water at Lynn Road, Saddlebow in Norfolk on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, working on information that Danny's body may have been thrown into the river there.
Although divers found a heavy object that was of interest to the investigation, it is not thought to be significant at this stage but will be looked at further.
Northamptonshire Police will now be reviewing the position and considering whether it is useful to carry out further searches at the site and how to take the investigation further.
Detective Inspector Rankin McCarrick, who was in charge of the searches, thanked local people who may have been inconvenienced by the searches and encouraged anyone who may still have information to call in.
He said: "We have been in touch with Danny's family and kept them fully up to date with how the search went.
"The thing we want most of all is to be able to find Danny's body and allow his family to bury him. We will consider to look at how best we can do that."
Anyone with information that may help the police find Danny Hathaway's body can call Northamptonshire Police on 08453 700700 or Crimestoppers, where callers can remain anonymous on 0800 555111.
