Olympic hero Daniel Keatings has thanked the people of Corby for helping him become a world class sports star.
The Corby 18-year-old finished a credible 20th in the all-round men's gymnastics event at the Beijing Olympics.
He was the youngest competitor in the field and has his sights on glory in the London 2012 games.
In his first interview with the Evening Telegraph since getting back to the UK he said: "I'd like to say a big thank-you to everyone who supported me in the run-up to the Olympics. I appreciate everything you have given me and it's been a great help.
"I was so hyped up but now the pressure is off I feel relaxed. Since I've been back I've been seeing my friends and everyone who has supported me.
"It's just starting to sink in that I was at the Olympics and now I'm really excited about 2012."
Daniel, who received dozens of text messages of support from friends and family when he was in Beijing, is taking time off before training at Huntingdon Gymnastics Club for the European and World Championships.
Daniel's parents and his sister went to Beijing with him. His dad Robert said: "Anyone can achieve what they want as long as they have backing from their family and the community.
"Daniel is a Corby boy who managed to get to the world stage.
"The support from family, friends and people in Corby has been tremendous."
Coach Paul Hall said: "Daniel has the potential to be right up there fighting for medals in London."
