Residents have been treated to some new items to help make life easier thanks to special funds from Corby Council.
Cllr Ray Jackson, of Great Oakley ward, has spent the £1,500 he was allocated from the Councillor Leadership Fund.

Each of the 29 borough councillors was given £1,500 last May to spend on organisations and projects that would benefit the community.

The cash has now been allocated and the projects are finally coming to fruition.

Cllr Jackson opted to spend his cash on a new bench and noticeboard in Lewin Road, as well as a scoreboard at Great Oakley Cricket Club.

He said: "The seat will enable shoppers returning home to take a breather, perhaps encouraging them to walk rather than get the car out. Last year a seat was installed near the roundabout on the A6014 with the same aim.

"The noticeboard will help secretaries and officers of various clubs in Great Oakley to get in touch with those villagers who live in the Lewin Road area and perhaps would not see the other board outside the village hall.

"There is a lot of social activity in Great Oakley but not everybody gets to know about it.

"There is also some equipment for junior scorers at the cricket club which is aimed at encouraging more young people to share in the fun of cricket and make use of the facilities at this club, which is more than 100 years old."

In April Cllr Ray Lilley put his cash towards three benches for Corby Old Village to help elderly residents and parents of young footballers after asking villagers what they wanted the money to be spent on.
