Litterbugs are turning an estate street into a pigsty, according to families who live there.
Residents are at the end of their tether in Kensington Walk, Corby, because litter is not being cleared up by borough council contractors.

They say people are coming out of the local shop and throwing cigarette ends and sweet wrappers on the pavem
ent.

Gary Cooper, 60, of Kensington Walk, Corby, said: "It's starting to look just like a pigsty. In fact, a pigsty is probably cleaner.

"Having lived in my house in Kensington Walk for more than 20 years, I am appalled by the steady increase in the amount of litter lying around.

"At one time, myself and another local man used to pick up the litter but I refuse to do it now. Why should we have to live in this kind of filth? There has been rubbish lying on the street for more than a week now and it's right outside my gate.

"The council contractors Kier don't do what their contract says."
Mr Cooper is calling on Corby Council to get tough on litterbugs and give them on-the-spot fines.

And he and other residents want more litter bins installed on the estate.

A council spokesman said: "We have a team of environmental and neighbourhood wardens who monitor the streets for litter and can issue on-the-spot fines of £80 to people who drop litter.

"If residents are aware of any litter hotspots, we would urge them to contact the council on 01536 464000 ."

Why am I not surprised? I never see rubbish collectors. Kier really irritate me. Not only do they not collect rubbish they are paid to clean up, when cutting the grass the rubbish gets cut to shreds and makes it impossible to pick up. It's disgusting. The Council do nothing. Kier do nothing.

When asked, a worker simply said "It's too much work to do".

I dont think it is just in one particular area in corby everywhere you look there is litter, all along shetland way is a disgusting, litter down both sides of the road ,what would help is that when the refuse collectors accidentley spill rubbish from the bins when emptying they acctually stop to pick it up, as it is they just leave it then it just gets blown everywhere!! who picks it up?

Fully agree with all the above, however, it's the morons who throw the litter in the first instance who are the biggest problem.

The thing is, we pay for the council to pick up the litter. This does create a mentality of 'why should I do it when I am forced to pay someone else for doing it'? You wouldn't like to employ a cook and then end up cooking the dinner yourself as well as paying for the cook.
I think we need a clear statement of responsibility from the council - what they are responsible for, and we are responsible for, just to remind people. But it is irritating when you are paying for street sweepers and you see none for a year or so. Who can say who is responsible for the swathes of litter blowing along gutters? Some of it is dropped by the binmen. Maybe they should also be fined £50 if they drop a sweet-wrapper.

Lets put council tax up 50% so we can employ hoards of litter pickers to follow us around all day and night to pick up after us.

Or parents could instill a litter free ethos into their brats - that would cost us nothing.

Council dont make the litter - we do.

Of course we make the litter, as do the council they are human beings as well not robots!
Corby is a disgrace they get paid to clean up and im sorry but they don't.
I have seen many council workers throw litter and bin men are not allowed to pick up things off the street its a.........health and safety risk!
Also many many adults throw litter not just children.

Ok Ray - let's get the council to state that they are no longer going to be responsible for street cleanliness, and refund that portion of our council tax.
Then we can be responsible for picking it up ourselves, just as we used to be when we even used to clean the pavements in front of our houses.
