A BROTHER and sister from Corby travelled to Gretna Green and tied the knot with their partners within hours of each other.
Damian and Dionne Fletcher were both married on Thursday, August 9.

Damian, 26, of Gunthorpe Place, Corby, married his girlfriend of six years, Margaret Duncan, 23, at 10am. Dionne, 20, of Hillcrest Close, Thrapston, married her boyfriend of more
than four years, Kevin McMahon, 20, at 7pm in the same chapel.

Plans for Dionne's wedding were made in January but Damian's wedding was a last minute affair.

He said: "My sister was getting married up in Scotland but nobody from our family knew we were getting married too.

"I didn't want to steal my sister's thunder because it was her big day. Margaret and I said let's get married on the quiet and we only ordered the wedding dress the week before.

"We got it from Bonnie Brides in Corby, who kept the shop open late so we could buy it in time.

"The weather was fantastic on the day and we got married at the Mill Hotel in Gretna Green, and our 22-month-old son Oliver was there and was really well behaved."

Damian is a microbiologist for Southern Group Laboratory in Corby and Margaret works at Squirrels Day Nursery in the town.

The only two people who knew about Damian's wedding were Dionne and Kevin and they were witnesses at the ceremony.

Dionne and Kevin, who works for Fairline Boats, met at Prince William School, Oundle, and they have a two-year-old son called Levi.

Dionne said: "Kevin proposed on Christmas morning two years ago.

"It was very hard keeping Damian's wedding a secret from our family, especially our mum.

"There were about 30 people at the wedding.

"The best part of the day was watching the doors of the chapel opening up and seeing Kevin standing there, it was lovely."

Dionne, who works for Sense in Kettering, had four bridesmaids at her wedding, her sister Danielle, 24, Kevin's sister Sonia, 26, and their nieces Courtney and Milly, both aged four.

Dionne's dad David, 53, gave her away, with mum Debbie, 49, of Horsham Walk, Corby, watching.
