Corby funfair is rolling into town again today for its annual week of fun and excitement.
The fun fair at Abington Park will be in town until Sunday, May 18, with an official opening event planned for 2pm tomorrow with the deputy mayor.

And to ensure it is a safe and fun event for all involved, police community teams will be working closely with organisers in a bid to make sure the event is trouble-free.

Officers from safer community teams will be carrying out high-visibility patrols at the fair and also around BP Fourways and the shops in Beanfield Avenue, Pytchley Court and Willowbrook Road.

Insp Gary Williams said: "Our SCT staff will be working in partnership with the fair owners to ensure this year's event is trouble-free and a safe experience which everyone in Corby can enjoy."

The fair first came to Corby more than 55 years ago at the former Stewarts & Lloyds recreation ground off Occupation Road. It moved to its current home between Cottingham Road and Kingsthorpe Avenue in 1989.

Fair organiser Charmaine Stevens, of Stevens Amusements, has pledged to work closely with the police and said there would be plenty of new thrills for Corby residents to look forward to.

She said: "I think the police have got an ongoing policy to work with the community and we are happy to work alongside them. We want people to come and enjoy themselves with their families.

"My father Joe Stevens started the fair over 55 years ago. They used to have thousands of free rides for Welfare Day."

Ms Stevens said there would be more rides to wow the crowds, including a Superstar, which goes up in the air and rotates, and a brand new Booster ride which is arriving on Monday.

On Wednesday the fair will open especially for children with special needs.

The fair will be open today and on weekdays from 6pm to 10pm, and from 2.30pm to 10pm at the weekend.
