The new principal of Corby Business Academy has assured parents that plans for the school to open next month are firmly on track.
Andrew Campbell wrote to parents yesterday to tell them the first day of term would be on September 3 at the newly-built school at Priors Hall, as planned.

There had been worries among parents that the ambitious building project would not be compl
eted and that alternative arrangements would have to be made.

However, letters sent out yesterday confirm all the arrangements for September and outline the fine details for children's move to the academy, which was designed by leading architect Norman Foster.

The letter covers day-to-day matters including school meals and bus passes. Some students are also being sent timetables.

In his letter, Dr Campbell said: "When students arrive at the academy they will be welcomed at the door and have a uniform inspection by senior staff.

"They will then be shown where to go and what to do, so please do not worry about this over the summer."

Dr Campbell, who is the former assistant headteacher at Brooke Weston CTC in Coomb Road, Corby, also laid out plans for the issuing of bus passes. Northamptonshire County Council produced the September passes and parents should have them in the next few days.

Year 7 and special needs students will start at the academy on September 3 and should arrive at school by 8.30am.

Pupils from year 8 and year 11 start on Thursday, September 4.

Years 9, 10 and 12 will start on Friday, September 5.

Governors have also ratified policies and procedures and a final version of the home and school contract has been produced.

The academy is part of a Government scheme to improve education in key areas across the country.

It will be managed by Brooke Weston and will feature a unique school day – with children encouraged to stay late to do their homework at school.

It replaces Corby Community College in Oakley Road which shut last week. Most of the pupils will transfer to the new school.

Other information about the school is available on the website at www.corbybusinessacademy.org.
