Overflowing communal bins are to be emptied today after the Evening Telegraph stepped in to help residents.
Stinking waste has attracted maggots and vermin to the bins outside Cannock Mews, off Occupation Road, Corby, since binmen refused to empty them.

The problems began after electrical goods were dumped in the two huge bins outside the homes.

Corb
y Council refuse collectors were told not to empty them until the flytipped waste was removed – but residents said they were not to blame.
Tegan Borland, who lives in Cannock Mews, said: "It's been over a month since they've been emptied.

"There are maggots there and a rat has been seen.

"We've been ringing the council and the reason they have given us is that people have illegally dumped washing machines and rubbish.

"They won't budge, and they've said they won't do anything until the items are removed.

"But it's not people from Cannock Mews who've put them there.

"Environmental health have told us they've had numerous compla
ints but they still won't do anything.

"It's just going to keep on getting worse and I'm worried because I'm three months pregnant so I have to be really careful."

The luxury homes in the Lloyds area of Corby were only built a year ago.
After the Evening Telegraph contacted the council, it agreed to take action.

A spokesman said: "We are aware of the issues at Cannock Mews regarding the bins and are currently working with residents and the developers to solve them.

"Unfortunately, due to the bin storage shed being blocked with residential and trade waste, refuse collectors have been unable to empty the bins as usual.

"We are sending a team out to clear the bin storage shed today and our education officer will be monitoring the situation."
