Tribute match at old ground
KETTERING Town supporters are to return to their former home for a special game in memory of two teenagers who died.
The club supporters’ trust has organised the memorial game at Rockingham Road for Ryan Kirk and Charlotte Filer following permission from the landowners Ben Pickering Ltd.
The game on February 4 is open to the public and will be the first time a side has played on the pitch since the site was repossessed from the club in December.
Ryan’s father, Richard, said: “Ryan never wanted the club to move away from Rockingham Road so it is appropriate we hold a final game in his memory there.
“I’m very grateful to the site owners to allow us to hold the game there.”
Bailiffs acting on behalf of Ben Pickering Ltd padlocked the site after the club breached the conditions to its lease.
Ryan, 19, and Charlotte, 17, both died when the car they were in collided with another vehicle near Grafton Underwood on January 10.
Last week families and friends paid tribute to the pair at their funerals at Kettering Crematorium.
Two sides made up of players from Kettering Town Supporters’ Trust and friends will take part in the game.
The captains will be Ryan’s cousin Curtis and Charlotte’s brother Aaron.
The Tin Hat social bar will also be open and there will be a raffle and auction.
All money raised will go to paying the funeral costs for the tragic pair.
