Teenager Sabrina Coe came up with a gem of an idea for her own business.

Despite being in a wheelchair, she has launched her own jewellery business, Sabrina’s Sparkles, and it is going from strength to strength.

Sabrina also recently received two awards at a ceremony at Wicksteed Park, Kettering, for being a champion of vulnerable young people.

The 18-year-old of Lovap Way, Great Oakley, said: “I was really pleased to receive the awards and I’m enjoying making jewellery and selling it. It’s going well and I’ve met some new people at different events, such as fairs and fetes where I sell my jewellery.”

Three days a week Sabrina attends Foundations at St John’s Church, Corby Old Village. The centre, run by Michelle Groom and Jo Lee, provides services for adults with disabilities and they have been helping her set up the business. One day a week, Sabrina volunteers at a sweet shop run by Wren Spinney School, Kettering.

The teenager, who was born with hydrocephalus, a build up of fluid inside the skull, and who has been unable to walk since the age of six, has also completed a Getting a Life leadership programme.

Her mum Carol said: “Sabrina has met lots of new people through starting the jewellery business and she is sending out a really positive message to other young people who have disabilities.”

The teenager has also been involved in the Keep Safe card scheme, helping young people with disabilities understand hate crime and learn how to report it. Jo at Foundations said: “Sabrina is an inspiration to others and we are so pleased to see her business doing well.”
