Artist's impression More than 20 leading UK retail chains, including a large Marks & Spencer, will fill a new 50m shopping park planned to open near Rushden. The Rushden Lakes centre will provide 1,500 jobs, bring several household name stores to the area and potentially attract 3 million visitors a year .

Once again we have objections being raised to the proposed retail complex at Rushden Lakes by the likes of the Wellingborough Chamber of Commerce, who appear to be completely in denial that the retail industry has moved on and consumers want high quality stores offering a large range and variety of goods.

The days of workers spending their weekly wage in the local high street are over and attempting to block consumer choice is not the way forward. If the Chamber of Commerce believe the proposed complex will damage Wellingborough town centre beyond repair, then they are persuing the wrong strategy.

The local High Street will thrive once again if commercial landlords become more realistic and offer shop units at affordable rents to retail businesses selling products not found in the big stores.

The spokesman for the Skew Bridge development is quite correct in that it will create badly needed jobs in the area and attract shoppers from far and wide. East Northants badly needs new investment of all types and the Chamber of Commerce cannot put their parochial needs above those of the population of this county.

Completely agree here, this is the best thing that can happen to the area, it will not affect Wellingborough or Rushden but will be an assett if done correctly.
