Volunteers at a church have launched a new trail to help children and adults explore the beautiful 800-year-old building.

This week children from Newton Road Primary School in Rushden became the first people to try out the new quiz which takes people around St Mary’s Church in the town.

Church warden John Allen said: “The children were very excited about the trail – they really got into it. It was wonderful to see them looking around the church and asking lots of questions.”

The trail is based on one produced by the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies and has been launched by the Friends of St Mary’s.

The quiz is primarily aimed at children aged eight to 12 but is open to everyone.

Children should be accompanied by adults who will have an answer sheet which contains additional information about the building.

Sheets are available at the back of the church.

To find out when the church is open call 01933 652222 or its office between 10am and midday on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday on 01933 412235.
